This is the first Christmas my boyfriend and I have our own place- yay!. Finally some space for a tree! 🙂
What’s not so great though is that so we didn’t have any decorations already, so we had to buy everything. The cost of this was adding up quickly (*ahem* what is a tree skirt and why does it cost £30 please!?), so I came up with this simple craft to save money. I made 20 fancy looking baubles for my tree and paid £1
That’s right- £1!
I’m pretty smug, tbh.
They’re really fun to make too- simply collect a bunch of pinecones from a park and you’re basically ready to go!. (If you for some reason don’t have pinecones in your area, you could pick up some pre-packaged ones online). If the pinecones are damp, simply lay them out on a towel and leave them to dry in a warm area of the house overnight. I also picked up some spray snow from the £1 shop (get it online here).
After that it’s pretty simple: ‘Oh hey spray snow! Meet pinecones!’ (just make sure you put some newspaper down first ;))
And there you go 🙂 You have some super cute, Anthropologie-esque decorations for next to nothing.
You can use basically anything to hang them on your tree- from sewing thread to whatever bits of string or ribbon you have lying around. If you want it to look extra polished you can use some fancy twine: I got mine from Ikea.
They look so happy on my tree! It’s a great way to add that ‘real’ touch to a faux tree, with the added benefit that you don’t have to spend weeks hoovering up pinecones… I also have tonnes of spray snow left over, so look out windows! I’m coming for you next!
I’m so happy with this simple DIY!
Are you inspired to try it?
